Creating A Happier Storage Environment

Creating A Happier Storage Environment

Since I became an adult, I have had a really difficult time parting with belongings. I just love remembering things that are tied to a memory, even if the memory isn't always a happy one. Unfortunately, this has also made it difficult for me to store everything I love into one solitary space, which is why I started learning as much as I could about the process. It has been really fascinating for me to focus completely on storage, and before I knew it, things were really starting to come together. I wanted to make a blog about storage to help other people, so here you go.

Packing Tips For Long-Term Storage

If you are planning on storing away some of your stuff for a long time, you need to know how pack right to ensure that the items will not get damaged while they are kept in a storage facility. Below are some tips and hacks for properly packing your stuff before it is sent to storage.

Avoid Using Newspapers

While you may have the best intentions in mind for trying to recycle your newspaper and using it to wrap your valuables, it is not ideal when it comes to long-term storage. Using it as a wrap is not advised since it can stain. Over time, the ink on the pages is likely to run off, especially if the pages are crumpled, and this might end up with you having items in pretty bad condition.

Use Bubble Wrap Instead

A very good alternative for wrapping your stuff is bubble wrap. Its design ensures that the products that are placed inside it are getting the cushioning they need. This can be a really good choice for fragile things such as glasses, plates, and even decorations.

Use Packing Pellets to Lift Your Items

It is good to use packing pellets at the bottom of a storage box too. This will give the items a lift, which ensures that despite items being moved or bounced around, the pellets will cushion the contents of the box. This is necessary to prevent damage. Also, it can prevent the contents of the box from getting broken. If the box falls, items will be better protected.

Appliances Should be Clean and Dry

Pay close attention to appliances when packing them. They have to be properly cleaned before being wrapped. They need to be dry as well, as any presence of moisture is only likely to cause them to rust and get damaged over time.

Anything With Doors Should be Taped

Anything that has doors on it should be taped. This is to make sure that the item will remain shut while it is transported, moved, and shuffled around.

Packing your stuff away before it's placed in storage units should not be that hard to do. Just follow the steps above and you can trust that your items will be kept and stored in one piece until you're ready for them. And, of course, secure and climate-controlled storage units are a must-have for long-term storage. Choose your unit carefully!
