Creating A Happier Storage Environment

About Me

Creating A Happier Storage Environment

Since I became an adult, I have had a really difficult time parting with belongings. I just love remembering things that are tied to a memory, even if the memory isn't always a happy one. Unfortunately, this has also made it difficult for me to store everything I love into one solitary space, which is why I started learning as much as I could about the process. It has been really fascinating for me to focus completely on storage, and before I knew it, things were really starting to come together. I wanted to make a blog about storage to help other people, so here you go.

Renting A U-Haul For Your Next Move? 3 Tricks That Will Help You Avoid Problems If You're Involved In An Accident

When it comes to moving, you don't always need to hire a professional moving company. For most local moves, you'll be just fine taking care of things on your own. In fact, you'll even be okay taking care of some long-distance moves on your own, especially if your final destination is only a couple states away. Renting a U-Haul truck is one way to take the work out of a do-it-yourself move. However, there are some tricks you'll need to remember if you want to avoid problems along the way. Here are three tricks that will make a do-it-yourself move go smoother.

Insist on Listing Every Driver

If you're going to be renting a U-Haul truck for your next move, make sure you get the paperwork filled out properly. One mistake could leave you with some problems, especially when it comes to listing your drivers. While you're filling out the paperwork for your truck rental, be sure to list every person who may be driving the truck. Even if they end up not driving, it's better to have them listed. If you don't list everyone, and your truck is involved in an accident while someone else is driving, and they weren't listed, you're going to be left totally responsible for the damages to the truck and anything else that was damaged.

Know What Your Insurance Covers

If you're going to be renting a U-Haul truck, it's important that you know what your insurance covers, as far as rentals go. Some insurance companies will provide full coverage for any car you're driving, including rental cars and trucks. However, other companies won't cover rental vehicles at all. That means if you pass on the insurance that's offered through the U-Haul company, you may end up without any coverage at all should you be involved in an accident. If you're not sure what your own insurance covers, don't take chances. Go ahead and pay for the coverage that's offered through the rental company.

Know What the Additional Protection Covers

If you're going to be renting a U-Haul truck, and you decide to purchase the additional insurance, make sure you understand the coverage before you pull away from the lot. In many cases, the additional protection only covers the U-Haul truck, itself. That means, if the U-Haul is damaged while you're renting it, the additional protection will take care of repairing that damage. However, if you take out a gate at the local storage facility, the additional protection won't pay for the repairs to the security gate. It's still better to have the additional protection. You don't want to get stuck paying for the damage to the truck and to the security gate.

Don't pay for a moving company if you don't have to. Use a U-Haul truck and take care of your own move. Use the tips provided here to avoid potential problems should an accident occur during your move. For more information, contact companies like Lake County Storage of Round Lake Heights.
